February 2022 DSA National Speakers Training

The DSA National Speakers’ Training Series is a course intended for active DSA organizers who would like to develop speaking skills. Socialists must be able to explain and promote socialist politics among a broad audience of their working class peers. Because most workers are not trained in public speaking, DSA’s National Political Education Committee and Growth and Development Committee are offering this training in an effort to create a new layer of members who can write political presentations and speak publicly. This will help members learn to argue in clear and compelling ways, to help lead political education within their chapters or working groups, and to speak to an audience in any capacity.

The course will include three sessions covering how to structure a ten-minute presentation and concrete tips for good public speaking. Participants will work on a ten-minute presentation during the course and then present it to a small group of peers. Each participant will receive a recording of themselves presenting along with feedback. Written materials from the course and slides templates will be provided.

For chapters and WGs that are interested in furthering the development of some of their leading or most involved members, please encourage them to apply for this course with your recommendation. You may be contacted about a recommendation if the number of applicants exceeds the number of spots available. Applicants will be considered based on their level of involvement in DSA, and priority will be given to BIPOC members as part of our national drive to recruit and develop members of color.

The course will be held in February of 2022, on three consecutive Saturdays 2/12, 2/19, 2/26 during the daytime. Applications will be accepted until January 15th, and applicants will be notified by January 24th of their acceptance to the program. Reach out to [email protected] with any questions.
